Phase 1 - Complete!

Hi all! IS101 Phase 1 has come to a finish. Looking back on the journey of Phase 1, I think I managed pretty well. Not going to lie, it was pretty rough finding my footing with managing 4 classes, working full-time, and still having time to spend with my family, but I made it through! I managed to stay up-to-date with my LabSims assignments, and even found myself ahead at times. Go me! Of course, there is always room for improvement. I think I could have focused more on the bonus quizzes. I have only taken the first two, so that's definitely a goal of mine moving forward. I do think that I have good study habits, as I check the IS101 assignments daily, so I think that will continue to be helpful with the upcoming phases.

During Phase 1, we started Chapter 4, which is all about Microsoft Word. Specifically 4.4 is about how to format paragraphs. Formatting paragraphs properly is such an important skills to have. At work, we use a lot of template forms for various things, and sometimes the formatting can get a bit wonky. Properly learning the different ways to format paragraphs with indentations and tabs, along with how to actually read and understand the formatting symbols, has made a world of difference! It has greatly improved the efficiency in which I can fix the formatting issues that I run into with those wonky work templates.

Looking ahead, we have our MO-110 Word Certification Exam in 2 weeks. To be fully prepared, I am going to make sure that I am fully complete with Chapter 4, again, which is all about Word. I am also going to revisit any topics that I may have had difficulty with the first time around to make sure that I have mastered it. You can definitely bet that if I need additional help, I will reach out to Professor Wu who is always willing to help to make sure we are set up for success.

I'm looking forward to learning the proper ways to utilize Microsoft applications and making my life easier by implementing those best practices. I am nervous for the MO- 110 Word Certification Exam since I haven't started on the live projects just yet, but I am confident that I will be ready to crush it! I am ready to be a certified proficient Word user. :)

  2. Hey Katelyn,

Loved reading your reflection! It’s so impressive how you’ve been juggling four classes, working full-time, and still managing to stay ahead in LabSims, seriously, go you! That’s not easy, and it says a lot about your hard work!

I totally agree about paragraph formatting. I used to just mess around with the spacing and hope it looked okay, but now I actually understand what I’m doing. It’s awesome that it’s helping you with work templates too! ^-^

  3. It certainly is a task to stay caught up with four classes, let alone be ahead on class work. All the practice we have gotten with word is helping in other classes and work as well. Stay on course and you will nail this next exam!

It's awesome that you got ahead on your LabSims assignments—getting ahead is definitely something I aim for too, but I tend to fall a bit behind on it. I agree that mastering paragraph formatting is such a game-changer, especially with those work templates! You’ve got a solid plan for the MO-110 prep—I'm sure you'll crush it when the time comes. Best of luck, and I’m sure you’ll be a certified pro in no time!

  5. It is not easy juggling work and college full-time, not falling behind, and still managing to find time to spend with your family. Practice sure helps in this course, especially when taking those MOS Certification Exams. Going over the practice sims has helped me as well.

  6. Hi Katelyn! I can’t imagine being a full-time student while working a full-time job so kudos to you! Keep up the great work as we approach the last few weeks of the semester. I agree that I should be participating more in the bonus quizzes too... I kind of fell off after the fourth one. Your confidence in earning your certificate inspires me to be prepared and ready for our next certification exam.

  7. Finding your footing with time management and delegation is not an easy feat, but I think if you are able to figure out, you are golden! Formatting paragraphs is kinda wonky, cause sometimes professors have different standards, but I'm glad this chapter made it a bit more simpler. Keep on crushing it!

  8. Hello Katelyn!

Congrats on making it past phase 1 because I know it wasn’t as easy as we all probably thought. That’s a good habit to check the assignments in Canvas daily.

If you were positive about passing the MO-110 before taking it. I bet you passed the exam with flying colors.

  15. Goal is always to learn from mistakes and do better next time, something I will do for my next semester. Formatting paragraphs is so satisfying because of how organize it can be, I always wanted to know how to do it and now we do. The digital world is only expanding so this class was extremely useful and will be beneficial for us.
